Kid Friendly Tips

  • Farmers Markets are great places for kids to accompany you and learn. In shopping for apples, for example, to make applesauce, you and your kid will be exposed to many different varieties. Many of the vendors at farmers markets will offer a taste, too, which is great fun for kids and will help you to make decisions about which apples and other items to buy. It helps kids to develop their palates beyond a container or box from your pantry, too.

  • Bread is a great way to have quality time with your kid and make something that both of you will love. You may not want bread to be the main ingredient in your meals, but it does sell well to all age groups and it is a marvelous vehicle for food that you want your kids to eat, such as applesauce, bruschetta, and more.

  •  Allow your kids to help select the foods and prepare the foods.

  • Allowing your kids to assist you in your shopping, cleaning, peeling, cutting (depending on their age) is a great way to get them involved and keep them engaged.

  • Let your children help in the meal planning. What new vegetables do they want to try? What previously prepared vegetables or dishes have they enjoyed?

  • The more involved kids are in the preparation process the more likely they are going to try the final product. They will be able to say they want to try the soup since they helped, for example, peel the carrots that are in it.
